Sandwich makers are great kitchen gadget to have in the house for a number of reasons. They are a must have for those people who don’t have enough space in the kitchen. That makes it great for people who have small apartments or for college students. Also, they are great for those who need to eat and run, or for those who simply love the taste of hot sandwiches but don’t want to eat out all the time. Basically, sandwich makers are used to make hot sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, grilled pizza sandwiches, and more. 

Sandwiches can be one of the least healthy choices on the menu. Great sandwiches are all about balance. Choose healthy ingredients and create your own a nutritionally-wise sandwich at home. They are so popular and everyone has their all time favorite sandwich receipt. 

Tramezzini, Croissant Sandwiches, Reuben, and Turkey Avocado Club sandwiches are quickly becoming one of the most popular items on lunch and light dinner menus. These famous sandwiches are the best on earth because they are good, nutritious, and each incorporates a raw food.

Reuben Sandwich 

The possible inventor of this sandwich is Arthur Reuben, owner of the once famous Delicatessen in Manhattan, New York. One thing is certain, classic Ruben Sandwich is of the most famous sandwiches in the world.

Ingredients: rye bread, mayonnaise, corned beef, sauerkraut, and a Swiss cheese.


Get 2 pieces of rye bread and spread mayonnaise on both slices. Then put a layer of sauerkraut over just one slice and place a slice of corned beef on the inside of one slice of bread and the Swiss cheese on the top. Finally, place the second piece of bread on top and place it in the sandwich maker and cook for 3 – 4 minutes so the sandwich is complete.

Tramezzini Sandwich

This sandwich is the Italian version of a standard club sandwich. Italians simply love this sandwich. It is also becoming increasingly popular in the United States.  

Ingredients: white bread with crusts removed, extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and basil leaves.  


Slice the white bread in half till each slice has been cut into 4 small triangles. Than brush them with extra virgin olive oil and place a slice of mozzarella on one slice of bread. Place in oven for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Finally, put basil leaves and cherry tomatoes on top. Place the second piece of bread on top and place it in the sandwich maker and cook for 4 – 5 minutes and then enjoy.

I love cooking, especially when the kids come home, but now days spending a lot time in the kitchen isn’t that appealing. Always watching our weight, we enjoy quick simple meals and thought a toasted sandwich maker might be a good addition to the kitchen and fun to try.

Not wanting another electrical kitchen appliance a stove top panini maker seemed the best choice. An All-Clad Panini Pan with Press had great reviews and a high rating by Cooks Illustrated. Its smaller size would be perfect for just two people. Like most Panini makers, it is non-stick and easy to clean, however, it is important to be sure to baste food or grill and pan with olive oil or spray them with a non-stick spray. They all have instructions but preheating the pan and press each on separate burners at medium (or a little lower) heat worked the best. Be very careful when picking up the press. Parts of some of a Panini maker will get quite hot.

This grilled chicken breast recipe worked out great on the stove top grill. It browned the chicken breasts beautifully on both sides without turning them and it only took about 10 minutes to cook. Shrimp marinated in this marinade and grilled on the stove top grill is also a delicious quick meal and the shrimp cooked in 3-4 minutes. Just remember to preheat pan and lid at medium on separate burners.

Zesty Lime Chicken

1/3 C. fresh lime juice 
1/3 C. chipped fresh cilantro 
1/4 C. olive oil 
2 cloves garlic, minced 
2 Tbsp drained chopped pimiento 
2 tsp coarsely grated lime peel 
1 ½ tsp. hot-pepper sauce 
1 ½ tsp. chopped fresh oregano, or ½ tsp dried oregano 
3/4 tsp. salt 
1/4 tsp black pepper 
6 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves

Combine all ingredients except chicken, mix well, add chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.

Cook on a preheated stove top grill for 10 minutes or until cooked through. If using shrimp, only marinate for 30 minutes to an hour and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Grilling asparagus is super fast and it is not necessary to reheat the press. While chicken cooks toss a 1/2 pound of trimmed asparagus with olive oil and season with salt and lemon pepper. After removing the chicken distribute asparagus evenly across grill and put the press on top. Cook asparagus until crisp tender. Because shrimp cooks so quickly, prepare the asparagus before cooking shrimp so pan and press do not cool while waiting on the asparagus to be prepared. The asparagus will cook even quicker because of the shorter cooking time for shrimp.

In conclusion, toasted sandwich maker, Panini maker, stove top grill, whatever you want to call, it is an excellent kitchen utensil. Use your imagination and enjoy quick simple meals in minutes!
